When you plug the light in it will turn on. To switch modes you need to first hold the up and down arrows until the light beeps. This unlocks the buttons. Once the buttons have been unlocked you can hold down and channel to put the light into direct connect mode (where it broadcasts a signal) or hold up and channel to put it in to router connect mode (where it connects to your home router). Typically speaking, Direct Connect is used to control a single light, while Router Connect allows multiple lights to be added to a single network for control simultaneously.
In direct connect mode you simply log on to the C-Ray’s WiFi with your phone. The default C-Ray password is 12345678. Once connected to the C-Ray’s WiFi you can start the app and click Connect --> Search for a Device from the home screen. Tap the radar icon and the C-Ray will pop up below the radar icon after a few seconds. Click the check mark next to the C-Ray and you will be able to control it directly and hit connect. From there, you can go to the Program tab and choose a pre-made program or build your own (see manual pages 21-24 for programming instructions). Once you’ve made or selected you program hit “start” and it will be uploaded to the light. The light will then follow that program indefinitely until you make or upload a new one for it. You do not have to log on to the light’s WiFi again unless you want to control it in manual mode or make changes to your scheduled program.
In router connect mode you will need to log on to your home WiFi network first. When you go to log in to your home WiFi from your phone or tablet if you see the C-Ray WiFi being broadcast then the light is not in router connect mode. It will stop broadcasting its own WiFi when in router connect mode. Once you’ve logged on to your home network open the Cobalt app. Choose Connect --> Connect to Router from the home page. Click next and you will be brought to a screen that should display your currently connected home WiFi and a box for the password. Type in the WiFi password and click Start. Please note that your phone will be sending a signal to the light with the WiFi credentials – your phone must be within 3 feet of the light when proceeding with this step (distance to the router does not matter). The speed of this step varies depending on your router, but typically takes between 30 seconds and 3 minutes. Once it has completed the login credentials the start button will go from grayed out to clickable again. This is how you know the credentials were successfully transferred. From there, go back to the home page of the app and click Connect --> Search for Device. Tap the radar icon and you will see the C-Ray pop up underneath it after a few seconds. Tap the checkmark next to the light(s) you want to control and click Connect. From there, you can go to the Program tab and choose a pre-made program or build your own (see manual pages 21-24 for programming instructions). Once you’ve made or selected you program hit “start” and it will be uploaded to the light. The light will then follow that program indefinitely until you make or upload a new one for it. You do not have to connect to the light again unless you want to control it in manual mode or make changes to your scheduled program.
If you have tried the above steps and it is still not connecting, please ensure the app is up-to-date (from the home screen hit the menu button on the top left and click “Update Version” and your phone’s operating system is up to date (see your phone’s manual for instructions on how to ensure the latest OS is running). If it is still not working, it is most likely an issue with your router. While we do everything we can to try and make the C-Ray compatible with all routers, there are tens of thousands of different routers and brands and we cannot guarantee it works with all of them. Direct connect will be the ideal mode for this situation.
